Broadband Access Company ‘Pitches’ for Enterprise Award

A fast-growing broadband access company, which specialises in passenger transport Wi-Fi, has won a ‘business pitching’ battle to win an important enterprise award in Swords this evening (September 29th).

Fleet Connect, set up in 2008 by Patrick Cotter, provides passenger Wi-Fi services for major transport companies North and South, including Bus Eireann, Irish Rail, Translink, Aircoach and Go Bus. They were presented with the ‘Fingal Enterprise Award’ at an awards ceremony tonight on the penultimate day of Fingal Enterprise Week, which is organised by the Fingal County Enterprise Board.

The Blanchardstown-based company, along with three other finalists, had to ‘pitch’ their enterprises and present business plans to an experienced judging panel: Bobby Kerr from Insomnia, Ben Dunne from Ben Dunne Fitness Centres and 11890’s Nicola Byrne. The pitching and awards all took place in front of two hundred guests at the Europa Academy in Swords, with Richard Curran from Dragons’ Den acting as the master of ceremonies. Joe Harford, the Chairman of Fingal County Enterprise Board, presented the award to Cotter on stage.

Another nominee, Celtic Motorcycle Rentals, won the ‘Highly Commended’ award for their business pitch, as voted for by the members of the audience. The other finalists this evening were Urbanfrog Ltd and QRS Renewables.

Oisin Geoghegan, C.E.O. of Fingal County Enterprise Board, was the first to congratulate the winners, saying “Fleet Connect are ideal role models for Ireland’s enterprising culture and will now represent the County at the National Enterprise Awards in November.”

He added. “This company is unique in Ireland. The industry that they operate in is constantly and rapidly evolving. They have managed to become market leader by keeping several steps ahead of the game. After only three years, Fleet Connect has secured major contracts to provide their remote Wi-Fi and GPS vehicle tracking systems to the major passenger transport companies in this country. They are poised for further growth both at home and in international markets.”

Urbanfrog, which was set up by Angie McMenamin and Vivienne Horkan, designs and distributes fashionable cyclewear; QRS Renewables, which is run by Robert Hegarty and Paul Quinn, provides energy solutions and energy enabling services to the sustainable energy market; Celtic Motorcycle Rental Ireland Ltd, which was set up by Paul and Siobhan Rawlins to organise personal and self-guided tours of Ireland on motorcycle.

Fingal Enterprise Week is supported by Fingal County Council, Bank of Ireland and Newstalk and comes to a close tomorrow (Friday, September 30th).
